Road Safety Week begins across Kashmir
Srinagar:The 31stRoad Safety Week – 2020 commenced across Kashmir division today.The Week is being observed nationwide from January 11 to January 17 and the theme of this year’s Road Safety Week is “Sadak Surakhsha Jeevan Raksha”.
The aim of the week is to inculcate traffic education and awareness among motorists, commuters, pedestrians includingcollege and school goers and to make them aware about safety measure to be taken while on road.
During the week several activities will be carried out across the division including rallies, awareness camps, seminars, debates, painting competitions and other related programs.
At SRINAGAR: The week long programme was inaugurated by Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Akramullah Tak at SRTC Yard Parimpora today.
On the occasion pamphlets and road safety slogan Stickers were distributed among the candidates who had come to appear for driving test. RTO Kashmir spoke on various road safety measures to be adopted for safe road use.
The week was also observed by Traffic Police City, Srinagar.
BANDIPORA: Deputy Commissioner (DC)Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza inaugurated the Road Safety Week by flagging off a walkathon and car rally from Mini secretariat to Bandipora Town Square, here today.
The car rally was organised by ARTO Bandipora in which scores of Sumo Drivers participated while students from various schools took part in walkathon.
The rally and walkathon commenced from Mini Secretariat and culminated at Gulshan Chowk Bandipora.
The students and the Car drivers were carrying placards with slogans appealing people to follow road safety measures to avoid accidents.
AT BARAMULLA: The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo along with SSP Baramulla, Abdul Quyoom flagged off a rally of vehicles from Dak Bungalow to kick-start the week.
On the occasion, DC administered a pledge to the drivers in which they pledged to obey traffic rules and regulations.
He said that various issues and bottlenecks including traffic jams, narrow roads and other impediments shall be highlighted during the week so that the same are redressed.
AT KULGAM: On the commencing day of the week long programme a Maga auto rally was flagged -off by the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat in presence of officers of traffic police, district administration and representatives of driving institutions, auto unions, automobile dealers.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that during the weeklong programme, medical camps for professional drivers will be held and variety of educational banners, safety posters, essay competition, debates, blood donation camps, seminars, cultural program depicting road safety theme will be organized while pocket guides, leaflets related to the road safety will be distributed among the commuters.
AT PULWAMA: District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer in Presence of SSP Pulwama, Chandan Kohili and ARTO Mukhtar Ahmad today inaugurated the Week.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the aim of observing the week is to sensitize people about traffic rules.
On the occasion, SSP PulwamaChandan Kohili laid stress on wearing helmets, seat belts and obeying traffic rules to avoid accidents.
ARTO Pulwama informed the gathering that the highlights of the week will be painting competitions, road shows and awareness camps.
Later, District Development Commissioner and SSP Pulwama jointly flagged off a rally organized by ARTO.
AT SHOPIAN: Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr.Ab Aziz inaugurated the week here today at mini secretariat Arhama Shopian in which a sizeable number of drivers and people participated.
Safety stickers, pamphlets and other print material regardingroad safety were distributed on the occasion.
The ADC said that the road safety week is observed every year to educate people about the road safety measures.
He stressed upon motor vehicle department and Traffic Department to deal strictly with traffic violators.
Later a rally of maxi cabs was flagged-off by ADC and ARTO Shopian which went through the main market Shopian spreading the message “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha”.
AT KUPWARA: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Lone inaugurated the week, here today.
On the commencing day an awareness camp for drivers was organized in the premises of State Motor Garages Department at Bumhama.
The drivers were informed about the guidelines for safe and secure driving. They were advised to avoid using cell phones while driving.
On the occasion, a Road Safety Rally of Vehicles was flagged off by the ADC which started from Bumhama and culminated at DC Office Kupwara.
AT ANANTNAG: The DDC Anantnag, Khalid Jahangir flagged off a vehicle rally from Dak Bungalow, Anantnag.
DDC on the occasion urged the MVD for organising awareness programmes on road safety.
The week is being organised by Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with a private motor vehicle agency, Anantnag.
