RWTH Welcomes Indonesian Ambassador in Recent Visit, Enhancing Diplomatic Relations

RWTH Aachen University and Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology have signed a contract to establish the Circular Economy Doctoral Scholarship Program.

Arif Havas Oegroseno, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Federal Republic of Germany, recently visited RWTH with 15 other officials. He was accompanied by representatives from the Embassy in Berlin, the Consulate General in Frankfurt, the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (DGHERT), and the three universities Gadjah Mada, Diponegoro, and Institut Teknologi Bandung. They came to RWTH to sign the contract for the Circular Economy Doctoral Scholarship Program between RWTH and DGHERT with RWTH Rector Professor Ulrich Rüdiger.

As part of this agreement, the Indonesian partners will finance up to 15 doctoral scholarships at RWTH in the field of circular economy over the next five years. At RWTH, the following representatives are involved in the partnership: Professor Thomas Rüde, Chair of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology and Rector’s Delegate for Partnerships with Indonesia, Professor Bernd Friedrich, Head of the Institute of Metallurgical Process Engineering and Metal Recycling, and Dr. Mohammad Chehadé, Managing Director of the Center for Circular Economy at RWTH.

The scholarship program builds on the BMBF-funded project GetIn-CICERO (German Indonesian Geo-Campus in Indonesia for Competence in Education and Research for Organizations), in which a jointly operated geo-campus and laboratory were set up in Indonesia with Universitas Gadjah Mada. An important focus of the partnership is therefore sustainable development. The new RWTH-DGHERT Scholarship Program on the circular economy is particularly fitting here.
