Secretary Tan Tieniu Meets with Lu Weidong and Delegation from Nanjing Municipal Party Committee
On the afternoon of April 9, Tan Tieniu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with Lu Weidong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Jiangbei New Area, and his delegation at the Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu welcomed Lu Weidong and his delegation on behalf of the school. He pointed out that Nanjing University has a long history and profound foundation. It is an institution of higher learning that General Secretary Xi Jinping has high hopes for. It has made important contributions to the development of higher education and science in our country, and it should have new take-off and new development in the new era. On the occasion of the school’s 120th anniversary, General Secretary Xi Jinping responded to a letter from NTU’s young scholars who have returned from studying abroad, extending warm congratulations and sincere greetings to all NTU teachers, students, staff, and alumni. This is a supreme honor for NTU and a great encouragement to the people of Jiangsu Province. Secretary Lu’s passionate, heroic and affectionate introduction to the development blueprint of Jiangbei New Area allowed us to see the bright prospects for the development of Nanjing University Pukou Campus and the broad space for cooperation between the two parties. Nanjing University will resolutely shoulder the political responsibility of building “the first Nanjing University”, set up a special class as soon as possible to follow up on the results of the meeting, further deepen cooperation with Jiangbei New Area, and build the Pukou campus into a highland for the integrated development of mass entrepreneurship and dual chains, and industrial innovation. A highland for talent cultivation and a highland where science and technology lead the development of new productive forces.
Lu Weidong expressed his gratitude to Nanjing University for its long-term support and care, and introduced the purpose of his visit and the basic situation of Jiangbei New Area. He said that in March last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed “four major tasks to move ahead” for Jiangsu, the first of which is to “move forward in self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.” Jiangbei New District thoroughly implements the spirit of the central government’s instructions, focuses on the development of scientific and technological innovation, serves scientific research, and serves universities. The main development direction is highly consistent with the main direction of NTU. In the future, Jiangbei New District will fully support the development of the Pukou campus, further highlight the “golden brand” of Nanjing University, promote joint creation, joint construction, joint responsibility and joint efforts by both parties, and jointly inject strong momentum into the development of new productivity.
