Seminar “Elderly Wellbeing in India: Issues, Challenges & Prospects” concluded

Aligarh : The Two-day National Seminar on “Elderly Wellbeing in India: Issues, Challenges and Prospects” concluded with a Valedictory Session, marking the culmination of discussions and presentations. Sponsored by the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, the seminar brought together guests, faculty members, research scholars, students, and participants from various backgrounds.

The valedictory session commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Seminar Director and Chairperson of the Department of Social Work. Prof. Noor Mohammad, former Dean, presided over the session, congratulating the Department on the seminar’s success and emphasizing on formulating a comprehensive policy document to address elderly welfare issues.

Chief Guest Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, commended the organizing team for their efforts and suggested compiling a policy document based on the seminar discussions. Dr. Masood Ahmad (Rabta Committtee), expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with students and elaborated on initiatives focused on providing essential services for the elderly.

The report on the National Seminar was presented by Mr. Mohd Uzair, Organising Secretary. The report highlighted the extensive scope of the seminar, including 7 offline sessions, 10 online sessions, and over 200 paper presentations covering various themes such as legal and ethical issues, healthcare, technology, and economic concerns related to aging.

Ar. (Ms.) Ruchi, Associate Professor from Galgotias University, Noida, expressed gratitude for gaining insights into elderly issues. Mr. T. Nagender Swami, Executive Director of Villages in Partnership (VIP), Telangana, shared feedback and emphasized the importance of fostering positivity among the elderly.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Dr. Andleeb, organizing secretary, to the sponsors, NISD, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Help-Age India, and all participants for their contributions.

Among the attendees were esteemed faculty members including Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Dr. Qurratul Aein Ali, Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, Dr. Shyna Saif, Dr. Andleeb, Mr. Mohd Uzair, and Dr. Sameera Khanam, along with dedicated research scholars and students from MSW & BA programs.

The seminar not only shed light on the challenges faced by the elderly but also fostered dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders.
