134th Annual Horse Show organized at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

Aligarh: Horse riders exhibited their equestrian skills and prowess, showcasing a thrilling combination of speed and agility in the 134th annual horse show “Equestria 24”, organised by the Riding Club, Games Committee, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at the Athletics Ground of the University, igniting enthusiasm among the spectators who appreciated the skills of the riders and harmony between the riders and their horses.

The annual event, not so common in the Aligarh region, drew equestrian enthusiasts in large numbers.

Professor Mohammad Gulrez, Vice Chancellor, AMU, Chief Guest, Mr. Z.I. Sherwani, Founder and CEO, Cordova Group & Companies, Guests of Honour, Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Registrar, AMU, Mr. Shujauddin Khan Khusru, and Prof. S. Amjad Ali Rizvi, Secretary, University Games Committee distributed prizes to 45 winners in different categories.

Professor Gulrez congratulated the organizers for a great spectacle which has served as a beacon for sports enthusiasts for several decades.

He said that the Riding Club of AMU has its unique history and the student riders have brought laurels for their institution at national level equestrian events.

The Chief Guest Mr. Z.I. Sherwani praised the performance of the students. He announced a donation of Rs 5 lakh for the AMU Riding Club.

AMU Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Mr. Shujauddin Khusru and Prof. S. Amjad Ali Rizvi also expressed their views on the occasion.

Dr. Wasif Mohammad Ali, President, Riding Club welcomed the guests, while Basil Hanafi, Riding Club Captain delivered the vote of thanks.

The horse show began with the flag hoisting on the horses by the Riding Club Coach Mr. Imran Khan Shibli. Thereafter pole bending, individual tent pegging, team tent pegging, march past, show jumping, ball and bucket, ball picking, musical ride, ladies hacks, men hacks, carrot cutting and fancy dress competitions were held, wherein more than 80 male and female students exhibited their skills.

Captain Basil Hanafi won the first prize in show jumping, Altamash Mubashir got the first prize in the march past, Divyani Singh was declared the winner in open ladies hacks, and Abdullah Rais got the first prize in individual tent pegging.

Four year old Amyra was declared the winner in fancy dress, Tariq Khan in ball and bucket, Mohammad Adi in ball picking, Mohammad Shuaib in musical chair (Boys), Mohammad Junaid Khan in mount and dismount ride, Mirza Umar Baig in pole bending, Taha Abdullah in carrot cutting, Mohammad Umair Khan in men hacks, Hoorain Ali Rizvi in pole bending (Girls) and the team of Umair Khan, Junaid Khan and Hujjat Raza go the first prize in team tent pegging event.

The jury consisted of Mr. Asad Yar Khan, former Riding Club Captain, Prof. Mohammed Naved Khan, Department of Business Administration and Mr. SRK Sherwani, former Captain, Riding Club.
