National Champion, Enactus Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, presented project RAAHAT. The mission of Raahat is to eradicate open defecation and provide safe sanitation in urban slum communities by innovating in management of community toilet complexes and sensitizing people on good sanitary practices. The project works on three tangents to eliminate open defecation in any given area – Operational Management, Sensitisation and Community Based Approach. Operational Management, implemented as the first leg of the project, improves the overall user experience and creates value for the slum dwellers. It is followed by Sensitisation which brings a sea change in the psyche of the community through the use of mass psychology and aesthetic modifications. While the former two generate need and value in the minds of public, Community Based Approach creates a sense of ownership among the people – who ultimately regard the complex as their own property to be used and cherished by all in harmony.

Farhan Pettiwala, President, Enactus India said “I congratulate the winning team and all other participating teams from the Enactus India network for making the National Competition a success and wish them all the best for the Enactus World Cup in London, UK from 26-28 September 2017. As one of the largest Enactus country operations, Enactus India is a priority country for the future growth of the organization. We’re very impressed with the high level of participation from leading colleges across the country in the National Competition and hope that some of the projects can be adopted by the industry for the development of the community, especially aligning with the PMO’s vision of Swach Bharat (Clean India), Skill India, Digital India and Women Empowerment.”
