Siberian Federal University: The first meeting of the governing council of the climate REC took place
On December 1, 2021, the first meeting of the Governing Board of the Yenisey Siberia Climate Research and Education Center took place. The composition of the Governing Board was previously approved by the Supervisory Board.
SibFU’s rector Maksim Rumiantsev and the director of the REC project office Sergey Verkhovets delivered reports. The participants discussed the current state of the priority measures for the implementation of the activity program and the formation of committees.
In his opening remarks, Maksim Rumiantsev noted: “Now the REC management structure has two collegial bodies: the Supervisory board, headed by Alexander Uss, the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and the Governing Board. They will have to make a number of technical decisions. The REC project office was created on the basis of Siberian Federal University, and was headed by Sergey Verkhovets”.
Sergey Verkhovets, director of the Yenisey Siberia REC project office: “We have identified several authoritative areas that are associated with advanced technologies and cover most of the projects that are supposed to be implemented in the macro-region. Among them are global environmental initiatives, greening the economy of the macro-region, advanced industrial technologies, new education for sustainable development”.
The members of the Governing Board agreed on the regulations necessary for the REC activities, and approved the heads of the committees in the areas.
The creation of the world–class research and education center is a logical step in the development of the innovative, scientific and education sector of Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Tyva and the Republic of Khakassia. In the face of aggravating environmental challenges, Yenisey Siberia, as the country’s first climate REC, will become an instrument for improving the ecology of the region and the largest platform for decarbonization of the Russian economy.
At the next stage, these issues will be approved by the Supervisory Board of the world-class REC.
