Siberian Federal University: Winners of UN Siberian Model award at SibFU

On 23 December 2021, Siberian Federal University hosted the award ceremony for the winners of the 3rd UN Siberian Model. About 50 students took part in the role-playing game simulating the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council.

The role-playing game was dedicated to the environmentalization of the economy and artificial intelligence and took place from 1 October till 23 December 2021.

“UN Siberian Model is a role-playing game for students who take the roles of members of state delegations, journalists, chairmen of bodies, or UN secretariat members. For example, the members of state delegations prepare reports, participate in debates, discuss and adopt resolutions. The journalists come up with news about the simulation development and the performance of the bodies and interview the chairmen. The chairmen of the bodies follow the agenda and explain the procedures to the delegates. The secretariat registers the delegates, support the documentation of the simulation, designs and issues the materials,” shared Tatiana Sidorova, head of the department of International Law (Law School, SibFU) and the organizer of the event.

In addition to students, experts from various institutions (Yenisey Siberia research and educational centre, Honorary Consulate of Mongolia, Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Krasnoyarsk) joined the online meetings within the role-playing game. Partners from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) joined the UN Security Council meeting.

A jury assessed the skills of oratory and discussion and chose the winners. The students studied the work of the bodies in order to draw up the position of their state, defend it and work through the content of the final resolutions.
