Somaiya Institutions wins big at the ‘Smart India Hackathon’ 2022

Mumbai: Three teams from K.J Somaiya College of Engineering (KJSCE), two from K. J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology (KJSIEIT) and one from K.J Somaiya Polytechnic have won at the 2022 Smart India Hackathon (SIH), organised by the Ministry of Education and AICTE during August 25-26, 2022.

In the ‘Software Edition’ category, Team ‘COSMOS’ and Team ‘Mind Mantra’ from KJSCE won the first prize, while Team ‘Ctrl+C Ctrl+V’ were the first runner-up. From KJSIEIT, Team ‘Perfectenschlag’ won the first prize and Team ‘Data Pirates’ were the joint winners for a different problem statement category. Team ‘Revolution’ from K.J Somaiya Polytechnic won the first prize in their category, as well.

The Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving. With lakhs of students participating in the first round of evaluation, the Grand Finale of SIH 2022 witnessed over 15,000 students & mentors participating across the 75 nodal centres in India. Teams from 2200 HEIs worked on solving 476 problem statements from across 53 Union Ministries.

Dr. Shubha Pandit, Principal, KJSCE, said, “It gives us immense pleasure that three teams of KJSCE have emerged as winners in Smart India Hackathon 2022 – Software Edition. These teams, after working and coding continuously for 36-hrs at their nodal centres, have developed innovative and sustainable solutions to address the problem statement chosen / identified by the team. We are very much thankful and express deep gratitude to the SVU Management for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the entire KJSCE process of Smart India Hackathon 2022.”

Dr. Suresh Ukarande, Principal, KJSIEIT, said, “I’m happy and proud that due to the innovation culture inculcated at KJSIEIT, our 02 teams were recognized as “Winners” in Smart India Hackathon 2022. With vast research, followed by relentless coding and presentations during the 36 hours non-stop hackathon finale, the teams delivered AI-based solutions with impressive user-interface as expected by the Ministries. We congratulate the students from both the teams and their mentors for this achievement, and our best wishes to them for the future goals of the products developed. We thank the Somaiya Vidyavihar Management for their continuous motivation and guidance, always.”

Mrs. Padmaja Bandaru, Principal, K.J Somaiya Polytechnic, said, “I am very proud to say that our team won the first prize at the Smart India Hackathon 2022. The entire project was fabricated in a workshop of K.J Somaiya Polytechnic. Our team worked diligently and put in a lot of work to achieve this result.”
