Stevens Institute of Technology: Stevens Online Graduate Programs Rank in Top 10 Nationally, No. 1 in New Jersey
Stevens Institute of Technology has once again been named as a leader in online education by U.S. News & World Report, which released its 2022 Best Online Programs rankings today.
Placing nationally in seven online graduate education categories — including three in the top 10 — across the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science (SES), School of Systems and Enterprises (SSE) and School of Business, Stevens claims the No. 1 program in New Jersey in six of those categories, including the newly ranked Engineering Specialties for Engineering Management. This also marks the seventh year in a row that Stevens’ online MBA has ranked No. 1 in New Jersey.
“As a leading provider of technology-infused graduate education, we are dedicated to providing our online students with top-flight programs and a rich learning experience,” Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jianmin Qu said. “These prestigious rankings confirm the value of our innovative online learning technologies and pedagogies and our dedication to meeting the needs of today’s students no matter which learning modalities they choose.”
The rankings for all seven programs are:
Best Online Graduate Engineering Specialties for Industrial (Systems) Engineering, No. 7 (No.1 in New Jersey)
Best Online Graduate Engineering Specialties for Engineering Management, No. 9 (No. 1 in New Jersey)
Best Online Graduate Engineering, No. 25 (No. 1 in New Jersey)
Best Online Graduate Computer Information Technology, No. 8 (No. 1 in New Jersey)
Best Online MBA – Business Analytics Specialty, No. 19 (No. 1 in New Jersey)
Best Online Graduate Business (non-MBA), No. 28 (No. 2 in New Jersey)
Best Online MBA, No. 42 (No. 1 in New Jersey)
“I am particularly proud that three of our programs are ranked in the top 10 of their respective categories as we continue to pursue our goal to deliver world class education to our online students,” Senior Vice Provost for Graduate Education Dr. Constantin Chassapis said. “This distinction validates our plans to grow our online offerings to provide students a competitive advantage as they focus on advancing their careers.”
The proof is in the numbers: 96% of graduate students seeking jobs — including online and traditional students — secure employment within three months of graduation with an average salary of $86,918 and average sign-on bonus of $14,368.
“The flexibility of online learning allowed me to work full-time and get my master’s at the same time, and my professors were able to think outside of the stereotypical classroom to provide my peers and myself with a quality, well-rounded education that was offered completely online,” said Matthew Menture M.Eng. ’21, a system engineer at General Dynamics and graduate of the engineering management program. “My employer saw the potential of my advanced education, and I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in today without my master’s degree.”
The importance of continuing to build robust and innovative online programs can’t be overstated, particularly as online enrollment increases. The number of students enrolled in online master’s programs university-wide in Fall 2021 was 54% higher than that of Fall 2020: the business school increased by 31%, SSE by 45% and SES by an astounding 101% (SES saw online students making up 9% of its graduate population in 2021, up from 3% in 2020).
These prestigious rankings are the latest in a string of achievements spanning a 10-year period of growth marked by a consistent upward trend of enrollment, student profile, academic and campus expansion, and research funding.
“We are constantly expanding the services and resources offered, and our online programs provide students and faculty frequent live interactions,” Chassapis said. “The result of these investments is an education where students not only learn the curriculum, but become comfortable working and collaborating in a virtual environment, which is more important than ever to excel in the workforce.”
For the rankings this year, U.S. News assessed more than 1,700 online programs and evaluated five categories for each discipline: student engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, student excellence, and student services and technologies.
