SURE℠ workshop concludes at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)
Aligarh : Adeeba Khan received the first prize, while Muneer Raza Khan and Rehan stood second and third respectively for showcasing their foundational business skills and expertise in the ‘Step-Ahead’ competition of the three-month long Stimulating Urban Renewal Through Entrepreneurship (SURE℠) Workshop of the University of Houston at the Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Felicitating the winners and other participants in the valedictory function; the Chief Guest, Prof Mohammad Gulrez (AMU Pro Vice Chancellor) remarked: “The unique partnership of business owners and executives in making the budding entrepreneurs understand the needs of diverse stakeholders and contextualizing the role entrepreneurship can play outside of the sometimes exclusive world of startups provided an unmatched opportunity to all involved in workshop”.
He pointed out; AMU has a huge role and responsibility to disseminate and implement the required set of principles and general and specific values in the society through teaching, research and extension.
Prof Gulrez pressed for the promotion of aplic work done in Aligarh and highlighted how AMU is implementing and promoting the Government initiatives for the promotion of entrepreneurship.
“The SURE℠ Program is connecting students, entrepreneurs and executives to achieve the goals of economically empowering entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities and successfully training students in practical, human-centered skills”, said the Guest of Honour, Pawan Agarwal (District Governor, Rotary Club, Kashipur).
He added: “India is a big market because of its population with human resource in abundance and the need of the hour is to adapt in the changing scenario with the help of digital tools.
In the welcome address, Prof Mohsin Khan (Chairperson of the programme and Finance Officer of AMU) expressed delight and appreciation to the resource persons for imparting knowledge to the participants and offering them hands-on experience.
Prof Nasir Zameer Qureshi (Dean, Faculty of Commerce) and Prof Imam ul Haque (Chairman, Department of Commerce) motivated participants by sharing valuable insights into key components of successfully starting businesses.
Lalesh Saxena (Rotary District Chairman for CSR) announced the results of ‘Step-Ahead‘ contest.
Extending the vote of thanks, Prof Asiya Chaudhary (Programme Convener) said that a total 12 consultants and 22 entrepreneurs took part in the three-month long workshop.
She also conducted the SURE℠ Workshop in line with a Memorandum of Understanding that she had signed on the behalf of AMU with Prof Saleha Khummawala, University of Houston, USA.
Javed Ahmad Siddiqui (Deputy General Manager, SIDBI), Rajman (Assistant Commissioner, District Industry Centre), Brijesh (Assistant Commissioner, DIC), Anshuman Dey (Deputy Regional Manager, Canara Bank), Ishtiyaque Ali (Founding Partner, Orbit Law Firm, Mumbai), Anil Varshney (Chartered Accountant), Jafar Ghayas (Retd. Divisional Manager, Binzagar Company, Saudi Arabia), Dr Nasir Mansoor, Dr Gaurav, Dr Asif Akhtar and Faiz Ahmed were the resource persons.
The workshop provided an educational as well as a networking platform facilitating a value-added partnership between students, industry experts, and potential entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities and diverse backgrounds.
During the programme; potential entrepreneurs were upskilled in accounting, taxation, law, marketing, financial literacy and banking among other areas. Consultant students from the Department of Commerce assisted the budding entrepreneurs in the workshop.
