Te Herenga Waka takes an alternative approach to Graduation ceremonies
Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington will be taking an alternative approach to its May graduation ceremonies due to uncertainty around any COVID-19-related restrictions for large indoor events that might be in place at the time of graduation.
“While it is disappointing to be unable to run our indoor ceremonies once again knowing that our students, whānau, and friends have been looking forward to graduation week, we are excited to invite our graduates to attend an outdoor graduation celebration event in Te Ngākau Civic Square following a street parade through Wellington’s city centre,” says the University’s Chancellor, John Allen.
“We are also inviting our graduates to meet with the University’s senior leaders and have photos taken in the Hunter Council Chamber, Kelburn campus, on Wednesday 18 May and at Rutherford House, Pipitea campus, on Tuesday 17 May and Thursday 19 May,” he said.
“Graduation is a time to honour the hard work and achievements of our students and we do not want them to miss out on this special occasion. Our approach this year will allow us to celebrate in a way that is not compromised by restrictions and that safeguards the safety and wellbeing of our community.”
