The final of the competition for the program “UMNIK”

The main objective of the competition is to identify young scientists striving for self-realization through innovative activities, and to stimulate the mass participation of young people in scientific, technical and innovative activities.
The winners will receive a grant of 500 thousand rubles for the development of their innovative project.

The competition is annually approved by the Fund for the Promotion of Innovations (hereinafter referred to as the Fund) and is held with the support of Petrozavodsk State University and the Fund’s Representative Office in the Republic of Karelia.
The program participants are young innovators from among students, post-graduate students, young scientists of Petrozavodsk State University and other scientific and educational organizations of Karelia.
This year, 40 projects in five directions reached the final:
Н1. Digital technologies;
H2. Medicine and technologies of health preservation;
H3. New materials and chemical technologies;
H4. New devices and intelligent manufacturing technologies;
H5. Biotechnology.

During the opening ceremony, the participants of the competition were greeted by Viktoria V. Igasheva, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Industry of the Republic of Karelia:

Each such project is important for the republic, even if the presented work requires improvement in one form or another. I urge the authors of those projects, which today will not be able to become winners and receive funding within the framework of the competition, not to despair. The Venture Investment Fund began its work in our republic this year, which provides consulting, information and financial support for such projects. In the region, there are various mechanisms for supporting small businesses and carrying out research work, including reimbursement of costs for registration of intellectual property, its own grant programs. Every year we develop in this direction and try to provide entrepreneurs with new opportunities.

Valit Boris Mikhailovich, Director of the Venture Investment Fund, and Ivanova Tatyana Vladimirovna, Marketing Director of Petrozavodskmash Foundry LLC, also wished to successfully defend projects.

The opening of the final of the UMNIK competition was held by the Deputy Head of the Representative Office of the Innovation Promotion Fund in the Republic of Karelia – Aleksey Sergeevich Shtykov:

As you know, this stage of the competition is evaluated primarily in terms of product commercialization and business creation. That is why today representatives of companies and innovative enterprises of the republic are present among the jury members. Thus, you have the opportunity not only to receive a grant for your development, but also to prove yourself, to recommend to potential future employers.

The names of the winners of the competition will be announced in December this year. The list of winners is traditionally published by the Foundation on the official website of the UMNIK competition.
