Training course on preparing funding proposals for groundwater related infrastructure concludes
The UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (UNESCO ROSA) in partnership with the SADC Groundwater Management Institute (GMI) will host a webinar on 28 May 2021 to officially close the course on Preparing Proposals to Access Funding for Groundwater Related Infrastructure.
The course which ran from 3-28 May 2021 is part of the Governance of Groundwater Resources in Transboundary Aquifers Phase 3 project funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
This webinar is aimed at emphasising the key concepts covered in each module of the course. In addition, the webinar will also provide a platform for interaction between stakeholders (River Basin Organisations, National Governments) to discuss the challenges and opportunities for accessing funding for groundwater projects.
The SADC region faces challenges in accessing affordable finance for groundwater projects. The lack of access to sustainable financing is a longstanding and ongoing challenge for large-scale water infrastructure investment in the region, and funders increasingly perceive risks in infrastructure investments that are unlikely to be supported by sustainable ecosystem services. This makes accessing financing more difficult. It was against this background that this online course was developed.
