Trinity College Dublin: Trinity named among world’s top universities for graduate employability

Trinity graduates are among the most employable in the world, according to the new 11th annual Global Employability University Ranking and Survey, run by higher education HR consultancy Emerging and published by Times Higher Education (THE).

Trinity College Dublin ranked 137th of 250 global universities and was the only Irish university to make the list. The survey involved 10,928 international recruiters and managers in 23 countries and regions.

Trinity’s Director of Careers Orla Bannon said:

“We know that our graduates are highly regarded across the world and are delighted to see this reflected by these rankings. Our mission at Trinity is not only to educate, but also to equip our students for success in their future lives as individuals and as members of society, and to nurture skills that will be of value to future employers.”

The United States, with three universities at the top of the rankings (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology and Harvard University), accounted for 54 of the 250 top universities in the survey.

Mainland Chinese colleges saw a rise in rankings as did India’s universities. In Europe, all of Spain’s universities improved on their positions due to strengths in soft skills and digital literacy, digital performance and focus on work.

The ranking is based on a framework of six key drivers:

– Academic Excellence: research output, quality of teaching staff
– Digital performance: innovative learning methods, specialist training on digital jobs
– Focus on Work: entrepreneurial environment, relevant work experience as part of the curriculum
– Soft skills and digital literacy
– Internationalism: international curriculum/staff
– Specialisation: up-to-date technical or business expertise, relevant specialised research.
