The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), NIT Rourkela successfully organised a two-day 4th International Conference on “Advances in Distributed Computing and Machine Learning (ICADCML) – 2023” from Jan 15-16, 2023.
Dr. Pratibha Jolly (who has served as Principal of Miranda House, College for Women at the University of Delhi, for 14 years from 2005 to 2019) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She is a recipient of several awards and fellowships and is passionate about engendering change, early adoption of new technologies, capacity building of women in science and leadership roles, creating a technology-enhanced active teaching-learning environment, etc. Prof. Jolly stated that technological advancements may one day replace manual effort so that humans can enjoy the moment rather than engage in the task. She also stated that the transformation in technology had brought remarkable changes in societal development and said, “It’s a Smart world and Artificial Intelligence is embedded in everything. Now we are moving towards sensor-based environments and a sensor knowledge-based economy that has yielded way to an innovation-based economy and everybody is its participant. The way we live and the way we behave is changed completely due to automation and data embedded everywhere. So it is a time to modulate ourselves in this new era and grow with technology.”
Interacting with the participants, Prof. Maheshwari Prasad Singh (NIT Patna) who addressed the audience as the Guest of Honour, said, “Everybody is trying hard to use machine learning in every aspect so by improving machine learning technology we can help our society to get better solutions. Out of 200 papers, only 55 papers are selected to be presented at this conference and it is an opportunity to listen to the problems which are yet to be solved and bring positive solutions at your end. The conference is showcasing the thoughts of the few best minds of the country on Machine Learning, its present and future scope and presenting one of the finest opportunities for researchers, engineers, technocrats, and students to share their knowledge and research findings.”
Prof. Chandan Kumar Sahoo (Dean, Faculty Welfare) also joined the event and motivated the participants with his valuable thoughts on the impact of machine learning and AI in academic courses. Prof. Durga Prasad Mohapatra (Head of the CSE Department and the General Chair of this conference) congratulated the department for organising this conference and shared a brief note on the benefits of the technical sessions of the conference. Prof. Suchismita Chinara and Dr. Judhistir Mahapatro were the convenors of the program. The keynote speeches by renowned professors from USA and India provided a deep insight into the recent technologies and applications based on machine learning and its application, cloud computing, distributed systems and distributed computing. A total of 120 students, researchers, engineers, technocrats etc. participated in this international conference.
The 4th ICADCML-2023 was a platform for computer science researchers to exchange research results and ideas on the foundations and applications of Distributed Computing and Machine Learning. The conference included state-of-the-art research results and challenges in domains like robotics, blockchain, cloud computing, virtualization, Internet-of-Things, machine learning applied to solving critical problems in security and privacy issues, traditional network problems etc. These technologies help build smart cities, smart homes, and innovative agriculture, transform healthcare, upgrade supply chain management, install smart grids and reshape hospitalities.
