Udhampur Admin holds mock drill on earthquake & disaster rescue

 

UDHAMPUR: A mega joint mock exercise on earthquake and disaster rescue was today conducted by District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with NDRF and other stakeholder departments here at Subhash Stadium.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

While highlighting the importance of rapid response during man-made or natural disasters, the ADC said that trained and equipped NDRF, SDRF and Civil Defence volunteers play an instrumental role in handling the situation effectively. He added that the district is earthquake, landslide, flood prone due to which many precious lives are lost every year. “But such losses can be minimized by spreading maximum awareness among the common masses in general and youth in particular” he added. He reiterated that youth of the country are main assets of the nation and such training programs will make them confident and self-reliant in facing the challenges thrown by natural and manmade disasters. He called upon the youth to be part of Civil Defence and SDRF activities to serve the society at the time of requirement.

Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Udhampur Vidya Sagar elaborated the importance of the event and highlighted the role of NDRF ,SDRF and Civil Defence Organization in educating the general masses about diverse issues of public interests, disaster management and first aid. He said the organization was mobilizing the citizens and helping civil administration during the natural and manmade disaster.

During the programme, live demonstrations of different types of rescue operations and use of equipment of disaster management were given by the trained instructors of the NDRF.
