UGC HRDC, AMU Concluded Online Short-Term Course on NEP-2020 Implementation
Aligarh : The University Grants Commission’s Human Resource Development Centre (UGC HRDC) at Aligarh Muslim University concluded a week-long online short-term course dedicated to the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This event witnessed active participation from 100 college teachers representing Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the nation, specializing in various subjects.
The Chief Guest for this event was Professor Geeta Singh, Director of the Centre for Professional Development in Higher Education (CPDHE) at Delhi University. In her valedictory address, Professor Singh emphasized the critical aspects of NEP 2020. She underlined the importance of regional languages in education, stating that mother tongues are irreplaceable and integral to our thought processes. She shared a compelling example, asserting, “We dream in Hindustani, not in English, French, or German.” She also celebrated the cultural significance of Urdu, a language born and nurtured in India.
Professor Geeta Singh further elaborated on the new mandate assigned to UGC HRDCs under the Malviya Mission Centers scheme. She emphasized the pivotal role of these centers in spreading awareness about NEP and drew parallels between the visionary ideals of Pandit Mohan Malviya, founder of Banaras Hindu University, and Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of Aligarh Muslim University, in the context of educational progress.
Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Director of UGC HRDC, highlighted the transformative values of the New Education Policy. She stressed the pivotal role educators play in shaping the nation’s educational agenda and reiterated AMU’s commitment to embracing the new measures proposed by NEP 2020.
The course coordinator, Prof. Sajid Jamal, Department of Education, shed light on the course’s diverse facets, encompassing holistic and multidisciplinary education, skill development, academic integrity, and a significant emphasis on teaching in regional languages, including mother tongue. Eminent resource persons from various backgrounds conducted sessions throughout the short-term course.
The course received overwhelming appreciation from all the participants, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and content of the program. Educators have emerged from this course better equipped to contribute effectively to the transformation of higher education in alignment with NEP 2020.
