Underwater vehicle competition held

ALIGARH  : Team Nirma AUV from the Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) won the first position in the Aligarh Muslim University Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle competition (AMUROVc 2.0), while the Team Evaders from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Erode, Tamil Nadu got the second position and the third position was secured by the Team Wave Warriors from Aligarh Muslim University.

A total of five teams from all over the country participated in the second edition of AMUROVc 2.0, organized by the Marine Technology Society Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Student Section of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (MTS AUV-ZHCET), in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch, AMU and the Marine Technology Society, India Section for the undergraduate engineering students.

The teams from Delhi Technological University; Institute of Technology, Nirma University; Bannari Amman Institute of Technology; Sri Sairam College of Engineering, Bangalore and ZHCET, Aligarh Muslim University participated in the competition through their vehicles Arkaja 2.0, Agastya 2.0, ETAN 1.0, Varuna and Titan, respectively.

Welcoming the guests at the valedictory programme, Prof. Saleem Anwar Khan, Counsellor, MTS AUV-ZHCET Student Section said that the competition, held at the Yusuf Ali Aquatic Complex, AMU, passed through three stages – Maze Walk to check the manoeuvring of the vehicles, Vision and Control test and the Depth Control test.

He highlighted the benefits of joining the Marine Technology Society and MTS AUV-ZHCET and presented a brief report of the first edition of AMUROVc held in 2022.

Sufyan Beg, Principal, ZHCET, Prof. Arif Suhail, Former Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Salman Hameed, Chairman Department of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Sajjad Athar, Coordinator of Innovation Council and University Incubation Centre, Prof. Mohd Rihan, Vice-chair, IEEE UP Section and Mr Mohammad Zaid, Counsellor, IEEE Student Branch, AMU addressed the participants and appreciated their efforts.

The newsletter of the MTS AUV-ZHCET was released on the occasion, followed by the distribution of prizes to the school students who participated in the Remote-control Car workshop and Poster competition organized by the MTS AUV-ZHCET Student Section. Prizes were also given to the winners of the Science Fair jointly organized by MTS AUV-ZHCET, RAS IEEE AMU and Innovation Council and the University Incubation Centre.

A training session on “Understanding ROS – Ground Zero” was jointly organized by MTS AUV- ZHCET and TPO, ZHCET with the guest speaker Mr Thomas Kuruvila, Chief Robotics Engineer, Andromeda Maritime Solutions, New Delhi.

The participants of the AMUROVc 2.0 competition visited the Strachey Hall and other historical buildings of the university under a Cultural Walk and got an insight into the history and culture of the university.

Mr Siddhant Bajpai, Founder and CEO of Andromeda Maritime Solutions, Mr Thomas Kuruvila, Chief Robotics Engineer, Andromeda Maritime Solutions, New Delhi and Mr Shubham Singh, Engineer, R&D Mechanical, Addverb Technologies Ltd, Noida were the judges of the event.

Counsellor Prof. Saleem Anwar Khan, Co-Coordinators: Dr Azhar Jamil, Dr Muhammad Inamullah and Dr Mohd Ayyub Khan and Counsellor IEEE Student Branch, Mr Mohammad Zaid were the organizing secretaries.
