The University of Bremen is once again represented in the selection of new priority programs by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The department of production technology is one of the six new programs that were selected from a total of 33 submitted initiatives.
The six new associations will receive a total of around 44 million euros for an initial period of three years. In the priority programs, the scientific foundations of particularly current or emerging research areas are to be examined. All programs are strongly interdisciplinary and are characterized by the use of innovative methods.

Measuring with drones where it is difficult or dangerous for people
According to William Thomson, “to measure is to know” applies, which is why advances in measurement technology continue to shape our social progress. “Measurement technology on flying platforms” – this is the name of the new Bremen priority program that Professor Andreas Fischer will coordinate at the Bremen Institute for Measurement Technology, Automation and Quality Science (BIMAQ) at the University of Bremen. The program aims to understand the untapped potential as well as the limitations of drone-based measurement systems. New measurements with mobile, flying platforms should be made possible and the measurement accuracy should be maximized.

The goal is that quantitative measurements with uncertainties provide valid data, for example to ensure the safety of structural and traffic infrastructure such as bridges, roads and wind turbines in the future and to enable monitoring of the pollution of soil, rivers and the environment.
The priority program will consist of around 16 scientific sub-projects that bring together the expertise of various research directions – on measurement principles and methods, sensors, signal processing & communication, as well as on the evaluation of measurement quality and resources.
