University Of East London Hosts Social Enterprise Event

An event exploring the growing world of social enterprise will take place at the University of East London this month.

Connecting Communities: Exploring the World of Social Enterprise, is taking place on April 26 from 10am – 6pm at the East Building on the Docklands campus.

The conference will look at where business and social consciousness intersect, and will bring together social entrepreneurs, academics and students to talk about current debates, opportunities and challenges to starting a social enterprise.

Speakers will include Mary Otumahana of The Record Shop, and Dennis Boateng of Inuse Reuse, who will share their experiences of starting a successful social enterprise.

Dr Kathryn Kraft, Director of Careers and Enterprise at the School of Education and Communities, said,

We will reflect on some of the current debates surrounding social enterprises, their role and potential as well as their limitations. We will also hear from some experts on how to get a social enterprise started and where to look for funding.

Finally, we will hear the stories of some social entrepreneurs themselves, in which they tell about how and why they got started and give some tips for new social entrepreneurs, both in presentations and in a more informal networking setting.”

As well as the talks, the event will include a drinks and networking session at the end of the day.
