University of Massachusetts Amherst: Assessors to Visit Campus as Part of UMass Police Re-accreditation Process

A team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) will be in Amherst Nov. 7-9 to examine all aspects of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Police Department’s (UMPD) policies and procedures, management, operations and support services, according to Police Chief Tyrone Parham.

Verification by the team that the UMass Amherst Police Department meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation — a prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. UMPD was awarded state accreditation in 2011 and re-accredited in 2014, 2017 and 2020.

Accreditation is for three years, during which UMPD must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
