University of Minnesota: New global rankings highlight University of Minnesota’s academic excellence
The 2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, released by Shanghai Ranking this week, has once again recognized the University of Minnesota Twin Cities as one of the world’s leading research universities.
“These rankings are the latest to reflect our well-earned research excellence,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Rachel Croson. “We are particularly proud to see such a broad array of scientific disciplines celebrated in these rankings, demonstrating the breadth of the University and our faculty’s ability to generate discoveries in multiple fields that address the complex challenges facing our world.”
Shanghai Ranking also publishes an overall Academic Ranking of World Universities, which in 2021 ranked the Twin Cities campus as the No. 24 university in the U.S. and No. 40 in the world, placing the University in the top 2 percent globally.
Twelve subjects at the U of M were ranked in the top 25 globally, including ecology (ranked No. 2 in the world), management (No. 11), library and information science (No. 13), biotechnology (No. 14), mechanical engineering (No. 18), business administration and psychology (No. 19), statistics and veterinary science (No. 21), communication (No. 22), and economics and education (No. 24).
Out of the 54 subjects ranked, 36 subjects at the U of M were recognized among the top 100 in the world.
The 2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects include more than 1,800 out of 5,000 universities across 96 countries and regions that are ranked using a variety of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure performance.
