Ural Federal University Enhances Collaboration with Colleagues from the Republic of Srpska

On September 14, representatives of Sverdlovsk region, among whom were representatives of the Ural Federal University headed by rector Victor Koksharov, had a meeting with Petar Djokic, the Minister of Mining and Energy of Republic of Srpska, in Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Nezavisne novine reports. Among UrFU delegates were also Sergey Tushin, Vice Rector for International Relations, Alexey Klyuev, Head of the School of Public Administration and Entrepreneurship, and Evgenia Saburova, Head of the International Marketing and Communications Office.

The Minister opened the meeting by expressing gratitude to the existing friendship between Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, and Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republic of Srpska. He emphisized the fact that they consider the Russians as their brotherly nation. They admit and appreciate the importance of the Russian Federation in the world politics and history. The USSR’s contribution to the victory in the World War II is respected and revered.

The Minister highlighted that he is glad to see the representative of the UrFU. The rector and the Minister agreed on the trajectory of cooperation between the UrFU and the Republic of Srpska in the field of Energy and New Materials. Therefore, the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Institute of New Materials and Technologies are potential partners for the Republic. Victor Koskharov suggested preparation of specialists in the field of Conventional and Nuclear Power, Heat Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources.

What is also important, the rector mentioned advanced programs taught in English, Energy for Smart Cities and Artificial Intelligence for Power Industry Applications, that might appeal to students from the Republic of Srpska.

“The innovations in the field of artificial intelligence in power industry are already being implied in Sverdlovsk region,” says the rector of the UrFU.

The rector also suggested to implement all those innovations in the mining industry of the Republic of Srpska.

Victor Koksharov pointed out the fact that UrFU is included in the QS World University Rankings and has a relatively high positions in the QS World University Rankings in different subjects, such as Petroleum Engineering (51-100), Electrical Engineering (301-350) and Material Sciences (280).

Peter Djokic has already visited Ekaterinburg multiple times and even attended international industrial exhibition Innoprom by which he was impressed. Victor Koksharov invited the Minister to Ekaterinburg, and especially to the UrFU, to discuss further details of cooperation and observe new campus of the Ural Federal University.
