Ural Federal University: Frank-Walter Steinmeier Noted Scientific Partnerships Role in the Development of Relations with Russia

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Honorary Doctor of Ural Federal University and President of the Federal Republic of Germany, discussed the priority areas of scientific cooperation between Russia and Germany. He greeted the participants of the Conference of Graduates of German Educational Programs in Ekaterinburg. UrFU was the central venue for the event.

“I have been united with Ekaterinburg and Ural Federal University for many years by a truly personal connection. I have been invited to give a lecture six times, and in 2010 I was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of UrFU. During each of my visits I had the opportunity to talk to students about German-Russian relations,” said Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

According to the German President, the alumni conference in Ekaterinburg is aimed at the creation of well thought-out networking projects. Such initiatives can receive financial support through the program “Expanding cooperation with civil society of Eastern Partnership countries and Russia”.

“Creating the cities of the future, the digital transformation of industry, sustainable and renewable energy, and international climate and environmental protection are just some of the fundamental questions about the future that we face in our time. From science, research and economics, they all require interdisciplinary answers. They require international approaches, for which Germany and Russia are working together to create concepts,” said Steinmeier.

The organized conference corresponds to the objectives of the Year of Germany in Russia and the Russian-German thematic Year of Economy and Sustainable Development. In the address to the participants Steinmeier emphasized that both initiatives provide a platform for joint projects, open possibilities for cooperation and attract public attention to the existing partnerships.
