Ural Federal University Humanities Students Forge Connections with China’s Academy of Social Sciences

The delegation of the UrFU Ural Institute of Humanities (UrIH) visited the Institute of East European, Russian and Central Asian Studies (IEERCAS) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing. The humanitarians met with the Director of the Institute, Heads of scientific departments: Strategic Research Department, Research Institute of Modern Russian Politics and Society, and representatives of the Research Institute of Russian Culture and History.

The parties agreed on joint research into Russian-Chinese relations, the history of the Orthodox Church, and Old Believers. UrFU historians invited Chinese colleagues to take part in the IX Ural Archaeographical Readings scientific conference.

“Among other things, the head of the institute suggested holding a joint event dedicated to the traditional culture and history of China and Russia. This is symbolic because Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree declaring 2024 the Year of Chinese Culture. We are now actively preparing an international scientific seminar on this topic. Besides, it is planned to sign a memorandum of cooperation between UrFU and the IEERCAS of the CASS in the nearest future. Therefore, I believe that the results of the delegation’s visit are only the beginning of fruitful joint work,” says Yulia Zapariy, Head of the Office of Research of Scientific and Innovative Work Organization at UrFU.

Cooperation with this leading scientific center of social and humanitarian knowledge of the People’s Republic of China will help develop UrIH’s educational and research projects, in particular, the training of specialists in the field of Chinese studies, as well as the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, which began operations at the end of 2023.
