Ural Federal University: Scientists Discussed Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World
On November 18-19, the Department of Cultural Studies and Socio-Cultural Activities of Ural Federal University together with the Departments of Philosophy, Sociology and Cultural Studies of the Ural State Pedagogical University organized an international scientific conference “Multiculturalism in a Globalized World and the Problem of Preserving Cultural and Historical Heritage (XVII Kolosnitsyn Readings)”. This year’s conference was dedicated to the memory of Lilia Likhacheva, professor of the Department of Cultural Studies and Socio-Cultural Activities, Doctor of Sociology, Honored Worker of Higher Education.
At the conference, there were reports devoted to the analysis of fundamental problems of cultural studies. Thus, in her report, Natalia Kirillova, Head of the Department of Cultural Studies and Socio-Cultural Activities of the Ural Institute of Humanities, revealed the problems of preserving national identity in the context of solving the problems of the functioning of cultures in the global media space. Representatives of other universities also revealed in their speeches urgent tasks and promising practices in the preservation of regional culture.
The Kolosnitsyn Readings illustrated how important it is to discuss the problems of cultural diversity in the realities of a globalized world and topical issues of preservation of cultural and historical heritage in the context of the state cultural policy. No less important is the analysis of traditions and innovations in culture in the era of globalization for understanding the directions of spiritual development of individuals and society in the XXI century.
