Ural Federal University: South Korea in Focus: The University Plans New Educational Program
Ural Federal University plans to develop and launch an educational program “Korean Studies and Korean Language” as part of the Oriental Studies and African Studies major – the development of a Korean Studies center at the university was discussed yesterday by Rector Victor Koksharov and Director of the Korea Foundation office in Moscow Lim Cheol Woo.
At the center, the guest held a meeting with professors and Korean studies specialists, after which the foundation’s employee, MGIMO professor Jung Byung-taek and Lim Sungjae, a Korean language teacher at the Ural Federal University Department of Oriental Studies, held lectures for students on the main directions of Korean-Russian relations and the economy of the Korean Republic.
“We are in the process of forming a Consortium for the development of Korean studies education and research programs in the Ural Federal District consisting of UrFU, TyumSU and ChelSU. This is a project that is supported by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea in the Ural Federal District,” noted Victor Koksharov.
The head of the university added that the university is interested in joint research with Korean colleagues in the field of Korean studies, as well as holding scientific conferences, providing information support and participating in conferences held at Ural Federal University and Korean universities, and expanding opportunities for research internships.
Given the increasing interest of Ural Federal University students in the Korean culture, the sides also discussed the development of cooperation in the field of double degree programs with Korean universities, primarily with the Pusan University of Foreign Languages.
