Ural Federal University: Speaking Club with Students from Chile
On July 20, 2022 the first online meeting of the Russian-Spanish Speaking Club was organized. The topic of the first meeting was “Hometown”. Around 20 Bachelor’s Degree students from some Chilean universities (Andrés Bello National University, Universidad Gabriela Mistral, Universidad de La Frontera, Universidad de Chile) participated.
The participants were shown a short video about Ekaterinburg and a presentation in Russian and Spanish about the Ural capital. They also learned some useful words and proverbs in Russian related to the topic.
In the second part, students from Chile talked about the biggest Chilean cities: Santiago, Valparaíso, Antofagasta, Viña del Mar and their favorite places in the capital – Mount San Cristobal and a commune of Providencia.
“Our Speaking Club will give participants from Russia and Chile a chance to get to know each other and the cultures of both countries closer, learn more about the traditions and customs, and gain invaluable experience of cross-cultural communication. It will also help to advance in the study of Russian and Spanish,” said Evgenia Saburova, Head of the International Marketing Office.
The university team was represented by Elizaveta Golousova, Associate Professor of the Department of Periodical Press and Online Media of the Faculty of Journalism, Yulia Bukalo, a student of the Faculty of International Relations, and Evgenia Saburova, Head of UrFU International Marketing Office.
The students were very active and enjoyed the meeting. The university staff received many questions and positive feedback.
The Ural Federal University is looking forward to welcoming the Chilean students at Master’s Degree level!
