Ural Federal University: University Became a Leader in the Number of State-Funded Positions

Ural Federal University has topped the top 10 universities with the largest number of state-funded places. In the academic year 2023/24, more than 9,700 applicants will be able to enroll at Ural Federal University for free. Most of the scholarship students will be able to study at Ural Federal University in the field of informatics and computer science, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering. In total, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has allocated 590,100 budgetary places.

This distribution allows applicants to choose a quality education without charge close to home, where they will look for work, said the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The existing system of allocating state-funded places has proven its effectiveness, and the increase in admission quotas for regional universities corresponds to the demands of local enterprises of the real economy and solves social problems, says Victor Koksharov, rector of the Ural Federal University.

“It is important for us not just to recruit a large number of students, but also to find people who are focused on a specific employer and who know what they are studying for. In this way we can train truly qualified personnel, develop applied science, and successfully implement advanced developments at enterprises,” the rector said in the conversation with the Izvestia newspaper.

All this contributes to the development of territories, increasing their competitiveness and solving the urgent problem of import substitution, said Koksharov.
