Ural Federal University: University Launches Student Projects with Slovenia
Telecommunications, software engineering, and microelectronics are the main areas of cooperation between Ural Federal University and the University of Ljubljana. Yesterday the university was visited by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovenia in Russia Branko Rakovec.
“With our colleagues from Ljubljana, we are counting on joint applications for European grants. We are also interested in the Kranj’s experience in green technology: modern resource-saving technologies will definitely be applied in our new campus in the Novokoltsovsky district of Ekaterinburg, where the Village for the 2023 World University Summer Games will be situated,” said Victor Koksharov, the rector of UrFU, about the results of a recent visit of university scientists to the Slovenian capital.
Ural Federal University and the University of Ljubljana have agreed to jointly develop project-based learning – student teams will work on Iskratel projects in the field of telecommunications.
“International relations are extremely important for both Russian and Slovenian universities. I am glad that we have moved from the stage of negotiations to the implementation of planned projects,” said the ambassador.
Negotiations are also planned with the Ural Power Engineering Institute. Projects in the field of artificial intelligence in the electric power industry, as well as computer vision, biometrics and information security, and pharmaceuticals have attracted interest.
“As mayor, I see a big role in education. Now we are busy with a lot of work on the establishment of a university in the city. Obviously, nothing will work here without cooperation with business, and the support of the world’s major universities is also important to us. We are focusing on programs in bionics, tourism, and sports,” emphasized Kranj Mayor Matjaž Rakovec.
The first Vice-rector of Ural Federal University, Dmitry Bugrov, stressed that Slovenia is very popular with the Ural residents for its cultural and health tourism. The developed sports infrastructure opens up new opportunities for cooperation with the Ural university, added Evgeny Shurmanov, Director of the Institute of Physical Education, Sport and Youth Policy of Ural Federal University.
