Ural Federal University: UrFU Broadens Cooperation With Iran

On December 1, 2022, an official online-meeting dedicated to the Open Doors Russian Scholarship Project was organized for the Islamic Republic of Iran by Ural Federal University and several Russian universities involved in the project via Zoom service. The Iranian side was represented by two universities – Shahid Beheshti University and Isfahan University of Technology. The meeting was moderated by Evgeniya Saburova, Head of International Marketing Office of Ural Federal University and Maksim Surkov, Director of the Center for Iranian Studies and Persian Language of Ural Federal University, who made a general presentation on the Open Doors Olympiad and provided consecutive interpretation from Russian and English into Farsi for participants from Iran. The opening speech was made by Sergey Tushin, the Vice-rector for International Relations of Ural Federal University.

Behrooz Abtahi, professor of Shahid Beheshti University, made a presentation about the university and the most in-demand programs for professional training in Iran. He also spoke about prospects of cooperation between Russian and Iranian universities, advantages and difficulties of Russian education system for Iranians.

Other Russian universities-members of the Global Universities Association – National University of Science and Technology, Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Tyumen State University – made presentations of three educational profiles of the Olympiad: “Engineering and Natural Sciences”, “Biological and Medical Sciences”, “Social Sciences and Humanities”.

The Open Doors Olympiad is a project organized by the Global Universities Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). It is an annual international intellectual competition that allows talented students from all over the globe to take Master’s and PhD degrees in Russia without entrance examinations and tuition fees covered by the Russian Government. The competition is open to foreign citizens and stateless persons, including Russian compatriots living abroad. The longstanding goal of this project is to promote Russian graduate and postgraduate education in the world and give to international students a chance to study free at leading universities of Russia such as UrFU.
