Ural Federal University: UrFU Focuses on Cooperation with Tashkent State Technical University
One of Uzbekistan’s oldest universities, Tashkent State Technical University, will join the list of Ural Federal University’s partners in Central Asia. The rectors of the universities Victor Koksharov and Sadritdin Turabdjanov discussed the training of personnel for the industry of the republic and the research partnership.
“The university is open to cooperation in areas where our competences are acknowledged – in metallurgy, energy, petrochemistry, electrical and pharmaceutical industries, information technologies. Uzbekistan identifies these directions as key in its development for the next decades. The fact that our university is one of the drivers of the World-class Ural Interregional Research and Education Center also opens up new opportunities,” says Victor Koksharov.
Victor Koksharov adds that the multicultural environment created at the university allows 4,500 students from 101 countries not only to receive higher education and take their first steps in science, but also to participate in major international projects: next year Ekaterinburg will host the FISU World University Games.
“Of course, we cannot ignore the fact that we would like to significantly increase the number of students and lecturers within the framework of academic exchange: this is a great tool for building a productive cooperation, because Uzbekistan is our close partner, if we take the scale of bilateral public and interstate cooperation,” adds Sergey Tushin, Ural Federal University Vice-Rector for International Relations.
Another member of the university delegation, Deputy First Vice-Rector Aleksandr Ponomarev, is sure that the foundation for productive cooperation between UrFU and the universities of Uzbekistan can be established by alumni of the UrFU, who work at the leading enterprises of the country.
“Our graduates and students are involved in all aspects of the university’s partnership with the republic’s universities, the Academy of Sciences, enterprises, and cultural centers. UrFU now offers a qualitatively different level of opportunities for those who want to continue their Master’s and PhD programs in Ekaterinburg. The UrFU Alumni Association and the Student Association help to strengthen cooperation with industry so that the most talented students can begin a successful career here,” says Aleksandr Ponomarev.
Rector of the Ural Federal University and representatives of the university work in Tashkent as part of the delegation of the Middle Ural at the international industrial exhibition “Innoprom. Central Asia”, the main theme of which is a technological breakthrough. The program of the Head of the University also includes a meeting with alumni and a discussion of aspects of recruiting new students from the republic with the leadership of the Russian Center for Science and Culture and the Ministry of Innovation of Uzbekistan.
