Ural Federal University’s Department of Machinery Production Organization Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary

Last week the Department of Machinery Production Organization of the Ural Federal University celebrated its 90th anniversary. Graduates of the department, representatives of the authorities, and partner companies came together to celebrate the anniversary.

“This is in many ways a unique department that does a lot of good. Our students get a serious business education here. The fact that many of them write their thesis in the ‘Startup as a Diploma’ format is an important affirmation of this. I am very happy that so many people came to celebrate with the department. I congratulate everyone on this holiday,” said Oleg Sheshukov, Director of the UrFU Institute of New Materials and Technologies, at the meeting.

The Department is one of the few continuators of the long-standing traditions of training of engineering and economic personnel – specialists in economics and organization of engineering production. More than 7000 graduates have been trained in the department since its foundation.

According to the head of the department Maria Prilutskaya, for almost a century of work this department remains faithful to the traditions of quality education and continuity of scientific schools. At the same time, the department is a tightly knit, highly professional team, ready to meet modern challenges and solve complex problems.

“I would like to thank everyone who came to congratulate us on our anniversary. We are ready to continue to maintain the high level of training of economic engineers for the machine building industry and to raise the bar of our professional competencies. We decided to hold this anniversary in the form of a scientific and practical conference “Technological Sovereignty of the Russian Engineering Complex”. It emphasized the importance of the domestic school of engineering and economics, the continuity of generations of our graduates, and the demand for graduates of the department in these challenging times. We had four sections where we discussed the issues of scientific and production cooperation, import substitution, the role of the military-industrial complex, as well as the problems of training personnel for mechanical engineering. These are all issues that the department lives by,” Maria Prilutskaya said.

Today more than 160 undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying in the department. The curricula of study and work programs of disciplines take into account the requirements of modern international standards in the relevant fields of activity and professional standards approved by the Ministry of Labor of Russia, which reflect the requirements of employers. Great attention is paid to the organization of industrial practice, research and design activities of students, employment of graduates in the leading enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region.

Igor Zelenkin, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Science of the Sverdlovsk Region, also congratulated the department on its anniversary.

“I congratulate the Department, its students, faculty and alumni on its anniversary. I wish you success in solving the most important state tasks facing the University, the Institute and the Department today. The issues were very well defined at the last conference. Today, the entire engineering industry rests on three pillars – cooperation, import substitution and human resources. Nowadays it is not enough just to make products, you have to study the market, understand its needs, study the competition. All this is taught in the department and really high quality specialists are trained. There is also an excellent material base here,” says Igor Zelenkin.

The representatives of the enterprises of the defense-industrial complex took part in the sections of the all-Russian scientific-practical conference “Technological Sovereignty of the Machine-Building Complex of Russia”: JSC Kalinin Machine-Building Plant, JSC Ural Plant of Civil Aviation, OJSC Scientific Production Corporation Uralvagonzavod, FSUE Integrated Plant “Electrohimpribor”, JSC Production Association “Ural Optical-Mechanical Plant named after E. S. Yalamov”, NPO Avtomatiki – State Enterprise Scientific Production Association Of Automation, State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”, State Corporation “Rostec” Academy. The conference was co-organized by the Ural Branch of Promsvyazbank.
