Utrecht University: Jeroen Torenbeek receives International Medal Utrecht University
Jeroen Torenbeek made an important contribution to the international profile of Utrecht University. Between 1991 and 2005 he was director of Bureau Buitenland. In this role, he was one of the founders of the Utrecht Summer School, the Utrecht Network that facilitated student exchange and cooperation between a number of European universities, and other international partnerships around the world. He has been a member and Chair of the Board of the European Association for International Education (EAIE), Chair of the Utrecht Network, and Chair of NIKI’s Foundation Friends.
Since 2005, he has been director of the Utrecht Summer School, which under his leadership has grown to become the largest summer school in Europe.
Through his large international network, his role in the Utrecht Network, the Utrecht Summer School and the EAIA, he has strengthened Utrecht University’s international profile and played a decisive role in its international visibility for many years.
International medal
Utrecht University awards the International Medal to national and international personalities who have made an outstanding contribution to international relations and the international profile of the University. The International Medal has been awarded to, among others, Prof. Joseph Sung (President Chinese University Hong Kong), Prof. Rob van der Vaart external linkand Prof. Bert Meijer (Director NIKI).
