Vice President of India confers ‘South Asia Legal Excellence Award’ upon Schools of Law, Amity Group of Universities during Tenth Law Teacher’s Day

New Delhi: Today, it was a matter of great pride for entire Amity family as Hon’ble Vice President of India, Sh M Venkaiah Naidu conferred the prestigious ‘South Asia Legal Excellence Award’ upon Schools Of Law, Amity Group of Universities during Tenth Law Teacher’s Day- (Law Teachers and Law Schools Felicitations and Awards) jointly organized by Society of Indian Law Firms(SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT) supported by The Bar Association of India at The Hyatt, New Delhi.

Honouring law teachers and law schools in India, Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT) have been observing Law Teachers’ Day in September since 2009.

Conferring the Awards upon recipients, Hon’ble Shri Venkaiah Naidu said that legal education has undergone through dramatic transformation in recent times and legal education is not just limited to lawyers, but present time calls for common people to gain basic understanding of laws. He emphasized upon change in quality and content of legal education in the country and called upon the educational institutions to instill societal and democratic values with deep understanding of Indian culture & ethos amongst budding legal professionals. He advised the law students to be the agent of change and effectively play the role of social engineers by imbibing holistic knowledge of not just law but also economics, markets, subsidiary elements of trade, international trade etc. Legal education must keep pace with changing demands of legal profession across globe because there is a conterminous development. He raised concerns over declining morals and lack of ethics amongst students and advised that moral science should be reintroduced in school education system. Sh. Naidu encouraged the legal professionals to conduct CSR activities like providing legal aid to underprivileged and create legal awareness amongst people. Also, legal advocates can offer their services to teach at law institutes. He remarked that serious efforts are required to impart quality legal education and motivate law students towards pursuing teaching as a legal profession.

Hon’ble Sh Naidu advised the gathering to adopt five ethos in one’s life i.e respecting your mother, the place a person is born, mother tongue, motherland and ‘guru. He averred that together, we all must be active partners for transformation of nation and follow the mantra of ‘reform, perform and that perform’.

Accepting the award, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group of Education said, “the credit for this prestigious award goes to the Joint Directors, the faculty members and students of Amity Law School. This achievement is a result of collaborative efforts and hard work. Amity is the first law school in the country to receive this award.”. He shared that such recognitions encourage the vision to be the best law school globally. Dr. Chauhan informed that presently, there are 8500 students pursuing LLB in Amity, 500 students pursuing LLM and more than 100 enrolled in PHD programmes.
