Vice-president Presents Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence to Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr. Randeep Guleria
New Delhi: Vice-president of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu presented 22nd Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence to Renowned Pulmonologist and Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, Dr. Randeep Guleria. Dr. Randeep Guleria receives the award in recognition of his outstanding work in the healthcare sector. The award ceremony was organized by Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Conference Hall in the Vice President House.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-president of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said that “A big congratulation to Dr. Randeep Guleria for receiving the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri Award for Excellence, he is the rightful selection from jury members. I salute all the doctors for playing a major role in saving the life of people and COVID time they served the nation. The medical profession is the noble profession and rightful selection for this prestigious award.”
After receiving the award Dr. Guleria said, “I feel deeply humbled to receive this honourable Lal Bahadur Shastri National Excellence Award 2021, a big thanks to jury members. Shastriji was a great leader and a role model for the new generation. All doctors have worked across the country to save a life during a pandemic and AIIMS Delhi becomes the first to fight from COVID. I feel blessed that the Almighty gave the opportunity to serve the people in the pandemic and save their lives.”
In his welcome address Shri Anil Shastri, Chairman LBSIM said, “The award honours each year a distinguished individual who has excelled in his chosen field. Dr. Guleria has done great work in the healthcare sector and more importantly during the recent COVID pandemic in India.”
Dr. Randeep Guleria is an Indian pulmonologist and the current director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, credited with the establishment of India’s first centre for pulmonary medicines and sleep disorders at AIIMS. He was honoured by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. He is a part of India’s COVID-19 response effort. A Jury consisting of eminent members namely Smt. Mohsina Kidwai, Justice G.B. Patnaik, Justice J.S. Khehar, Justice M.K. Sharma, Prof. T.N. Kapoor, Shri Anil Razdan, Shri Rajeev Dubey, Dr. R.L. Raina, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Shri Adarsh Shastri, Shri Anil Shastri made this selection for this year’s awardee.
The Vice-president also complimented Shri Anil Shastri and the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management for spreading the legacy of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri among the youth of this country. Shri Anil Shastri, Chairman, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Dr. Randeeep Guleria, Director of AIIMS, Shri Praveen Gupta, Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, and others were present on the occasion.
The award ceremony came to close with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Praveen Gupta, Director, LBSIM, New Delhi.
