Wildlife Department organizes Capacity Building Programme
Jammu: A three days Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on ‘Investigation of Wildlife Crime, Wildlife Laws and Identification of Wildlife Contrabands in trade,’ was today held here.
The programme was jointly organised by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Govt. of India and Department of Wildlife Protection, J&K under ‘Government of India (GOI) – Global Environment Facility (GEF) – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – SECURE Himalaya project’.
The programme was declared officially open by Chief Guest, Syed Farooq Ahmad Gillani, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests/Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir in presence of H. V. Girisha, Deputy Regional Director, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Government of India and Rashid Naqash, Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir Region.
The Chief Guest on the occasion said that the training programme aims at capacity building of different law enforcement agencies like Forest, Wildlife and Forest Protection Force departments in mitigation of Wildlife Crime and illegal trade in wildlife and its products.
H V Girisha, Deputy Regional Director Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Govt. of India in his address deliberated upon recognizing this as a critical area to build the capacity of different law enforcement agencies in the Forest Department for enforcement, monitoring and cooperation to reduce Wildlife Crime and related threats to Wildlife in the UT of J&K.
Girisha also apprised the trainees the structure of this three day training module covering important aspects like Search, Seizure, Wildlife Forensics, Investigations and legal framework etc.
Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir Region meanwhile welcomed all the participants from Wildlife, Forest and Forest Protection Departments, delegates from WCCB, Govt. of India, various resource persons and team from UNDPA working on SECURE Himalaya Project.
