Foundation for Technology & Business Incubation (FTBI), NIT Rourkela today conducted a G20 Jan Bhagidari Youth Fair at the Technology Innovation and Industry Relations Building, NIT Rourkela. The Youth Fair aimed at inspiring the youth to explore careers in entrepreneurial research and innovative startups. The event started with a welcome address by the CEO of FTBI, Mr. Chiranjibi Samal. Prof. Manoj Kumar Mishra (Head of FTBI Centre) briefed the audience on the ‘key roles of FTBI’ for incubated startups at NIT Rourkela. Shri Pawan Kumar Gupta (Joint Director & Head of Office, MSME-Development Industries, Cuttack) was the keynote speaker for the event. He guided the students about the different schemes by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. He said, “Youth of the country should think of entrepreneurship, whether in manufacturing or service sector. They should try to build their own venture so that they may have a source of income and be able to create employment.”

Keynote Speaker Prof. Arun Isloor (NIT Suratkal) joined the Youth fair to address on the topic of ‘water purification’. Speaking at the inaugural session, he said, “Sometimes great ideas originate in university campuses; we have to convert those ideas into useful products. We can learn from the example of Facebook. With FTBI-NIT Rourkela, you have an opportunity to present your idea.” Keynote Speaker Prof. Vasudeva M. (NIT Suratkal) also interacted with the students and said, “I am here for a workshop in ‘Waste management’. We are facing many day-to-day problems; how we solve these problems through entrepreneurship is important to build a sustainable environment. Students should learn to convert their research ideas into business ideas while studying waste management.”

Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NIT Rourkela) graced the event as the Chief Guest and said, “We need to find sustainable ways of generating electricity. As one of India’s priorities is to reduce carbon footprint, I urge you to think about ways to supplement non-renewable energy resources like coal, fossil fuels etc. Generating electricity from food waste can be one source.”

Around 200 students from 35 schools in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh attended this youth fair. They participated in the workshop and exhibited their innovative work projects. Startup incubated in FTBI-NIT Rourkela also displayed their product. The workshop ended with certificate distribution to all school students and winners of the Innovation Competition.
