Women Self Help Groups promoted under Prerna project of Swaraj Division formed 30,000 masks during Covid-19
S.A.S. Nagar, June 18:
In a clear proof of strengthening the hands of the District Administration in fighting the corona virus pandemic, the Swaraj Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, under Prerna Project had taken the initiative of women empowerment, through the promotion of Self Help Groups of women farmers, in the SAS Nagar district. Self Help Groups (SHGs) were promoted at village: Abrawan & Hulka, with the objective of uplifting the socio-economic status of women farmers. Each Self Help Group consists of minimum 10 women farmers and started with a contribution of Rs. 200/- per month and developed the habit of cooperating with each other. The groups also started interloaning to the needy members of the SHG.
During the challenging times of Covid-19, some 20 farmers of the women self-help groups at Abrawan village have joined hands, to stitch face masks. The order of face masks was given by the management of Swaraj Division, of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. These women stitched three-layered cotton masks (made up of Knitted fabric), while staying at their homes. The training part, fabric and other raw material were arranged by the representatives of Skill Upgradation Training Services, Ludhiana based NGO. Each women member earned around Rs. 3,000/- per month and support their families, during tough times.
The face masks were being recently handover by H. S. Bhatia, CEO & Principal, Skill Upgradation Training Services, to the management of Mahindra & Mahindra unit, for free distribution, amongst their employees, at their end. Women members showed a lot of gratitude towards Arun Raghav, Head, ER, Admin & CSR, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (Swaraj Division), for giving them opportunity to earn some money while assisting in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.
