Workshop held on sustainability in business

ALIGARH  : The Department of Business Administration, Aligarh Muslim University organized a workshop on “Sustainability in Business” under a course taught by Prof. Ayesha Farooq, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, which aimed at introducing the students to the real-world applications in sustainability and providing them with a opportunity to showcase their semester projects.

Mr. Arif Akhtar, General Manager (CSR), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, spoke on sustainable development principles and their implementation in the business sector, highlighting the Indian Oil’s initiatives in this regard. He discussed the theoretical aspects of sustainability and delved into the practical challenges and strategies for incorporating these practices.

Eight groups of students presented their projects, demonstrating the application of sustainability concepts and highlighted various themes, including food waste management, rainwater harvesting system, smart lighting control, awareness regarding blood donation, waste segregating and processing, hydroponic farming, sustainable communication and sustainable digital data infrastructure. The top three finalist groups were shortlisted for the sponsorship to be awarded to one.

Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker, Prof. Jamal A. Farooquie, Chairman of the Department, stressed the importance of sustainability and the need for adopting the same in our daily lives.

Prof Parvaiz Talib underscored the significance of the topic, while Prof Ayesha Farooq highlighted the workshop’s objectives and introduced the guest speaker and his wife Mrs Deeba Arif, who are also AMU alumni.
