World Food Day at Dept of Post Harvest Engineering and Tech

Aligarh : Faculty members and students raised awareness on the rising food insecurity and malnourishment in the ‘World Food Day 2022’ observations on the theme, ‘Leave No One Behind’ held at the Department of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

 

Prof Rais Ahmad (Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences) pressed the necessity for creating awareness and building a new sustainable world to provide the needy with regular access to safe and nutritious food.

 

He stressed: “Global solutions are needed for better production, nutrition, environment and life.

 

“Food crisis is poised to worsen across the globe. Starvation is a massive problem in a number of countries, and we need to do more to raise awareness and combat this problem”, said Prof Sadaf Zaidi (Chairman, Department of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology) in the opening remarks.

 

He added: “Despite progress in countries all over the world, many people have been left behind and it is high time that we come together in these events and outreach activities across the globe to bring together governments, businesses, the public and the media for promoting awareness and action for those suffering from hunger”.

 

Prof Sadaf also distributed prizes to the winners of the quiz, poster-making and slogan-writing contests.

 

Prof Syed Akhlaq Ahmad (Coordinator, Center for Food Science and Technology) pointed out that the World Food Day is a reminder and hope that hunger can be eradicated.

 

He called on the youth to pledge to stop food wastage.

 

Dr Rayeesul Islam with assistance from students gave an informative Power Point presentation on different aspects of World Food Day.

 

Dr Faizan Ahmad guided students to perform various awareness activities including a play on World Food Day.

 

Dr NaziaTabassum extended the vote of thanks.

 

Kulsum Sherwani and Tanzeel Fatima conducted the programme.

 

Later in the ‘Freshers’ Orientation’ programme, the newly admitted M. Tech (Processing and Technology) were given an overview of academic expectations to prepare them for challenges of collegiate academics.
