World University Rankings – University of Canterbury (UC) in top 300

The University of Canterbury (UC) is again ranked among the top 300 universities in the world.

This is according to the QS World University Rankings 2023, which analysed 2,462 global institutions and ranked 1,422 of them. UC ranked fourth in New Zealand.

Professor Ian Wright, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, says collaborating with other international universities on research projects was seen as a key strength of UC.

“We’re immensely proud of our researchers and the international partnerships they have forged. They work collaboratively with integrity, vigour, and impact to achieve the best possible research outcomes.”

UC also recently achieved first in the world this year for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and placed 50th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings of 1,406 universities worldwide.

“The result reflects the University’s commitment to sustainability action across research, education, engagement, and operations, and reflects the priorities of our Strategic Vision 2020 – 2030.”

In 2021 student enrolments hit a record high in 2021 of 20,919 (or 16,237 equivalent full-time students), despite the ongoing challenges of Covid. This is the highest total in the University’s history.
