Ural Federal University: University Scientists Are the Winners of the Russian Science Foundation’s Small Research Groups Contest

Scientists from Ural Federal University were among the winners of the competition for grants from the Russian Science Foundation in the priority area of activity “Conducting basic scientific research and exploratory scientific research by small individual scientific groups.”

The Ural Federal University submitted 124 applications, of which the Foundation supported 29 projects. The Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (11 projects) took the lead, followed by the Ural Institute of Humanities (6), the Institute of New Materials and Technologies, the Institute of Physics and Technology and the Institute of Economics and Management (3 projects each) and one project each from the Chemical Engineering and Power Engineering Institutes as well as the research laboratory for university development.

The main goal of the competition is the creation and development of new topics for research teams and the formation of research teams. Grants will be allocated for basic and exploratory research in 2022-2023 in all branches of knowledge of the classifier of the Russian Science Foundation.

More than 9,000 applications from 81 regions of Russia were submitted to the contest, and 1,822 of them were supported based on the results of the expert review. 25% of the leaders of the supported projects are young scientists under the age of 39, inclusive, and 34% of the leaders are women.

The supported projects will be implemented in 2022-2023 in small research teams of up to four people. The average grant amount for project implementation is 1.49 million rubles per year.
