Aligarh : Unani system of medicine is receiving a swift acceptance worldwide as it cures diseases in which other systems of medicine are yet to come up with successful therapies, said Dr Farooq Ahmad Dar, Chairman, Department of Munafeul Aza, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

He was delivering an online invited talk of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka on ‘Contribution of Unani Medicine to Health Care Challenges of 21st Century’.

Dr Farooq pointed out that people in South Asia, Middle East and many western countries are now going for Unani medicine treatments for the treatment of diseases such as Bars-e- Muntashir (expanded vitiligo), Dau sadaf (psoriasis), Iltehab-e-kabid (infective hepatitis) and Hasat-ul-kulya wa masana (renal and bladder calculus) among others.

In the guest lecture, he discussed the role of safe and effective Unani therapies in the management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and in disease prevention and health promotion.

Dr Farooq spoke about how even the post-modern approach in medicine is now looking into the age-old holistic Unani Medicine principles.

He pointed out that the Unani Detox regimens are proving to be more effective than many other regimens.
