KVK Reasi promoting cultivation of turmeric, ginger in potential areas

Reasi: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), Reasi is endeavoring to promote cultivation of lemongrass, ginger, turmeric and floriculture in the potential areas of the district.
This was informed by Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal while giving brief about the activities of the Kendra to DDM, NABARD, Reasi, Adarsh Gupta, during the visit of the latter to KVK.
He said that KVK, Reasi is endavouring for commercial organic farming, scientific lemongrass farming, value addition in agriculture, commercial floriculture, Integrated Farming System(IFS) etc. so that the income and employment among the farmers can be enhanced. He said that KVK is upgrading the technical knowhow of the farmers and disseminating the improved/refined technologies to the farmers. He also discussed the possibilities of projects in the area. He discussed on value addition in floriculture, lemon grass, turmeric and ginger. He informed that KVK is promoting cultivation of lemongrass, turmeric, ginger and floriculture to minimize the impact of monkey menace being witnessed in some areas of the district.
The DDM also talked about Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for the welfare of the farmers. He highlighted the farmers’ clubs formation and micro-entrepreneurship development in the district.
Scientist, Dr.Sanjay Kaushal, discussed the potential of organic farming in the district.
The DDM also visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi farm and crop cafeteria and appreciated the KVK efforts for the farming community. He encouraged the KVK scientists to work with full enthusiasm for the farming community.
