AMU Faculty Dr. Mohammad Rihan delivered a talk

Aligarh: Dr. Mohammad Rihan, delivered an invited talk on “Computational Intelligence in Smart Grid” recently in the online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) organized by National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, West Bengal. It was organised under the ATAL Scheme of AICTE.

In the talk Dr Rihan discussed the need and ways of developing a smart power grid. The role of variable nature energy sources like solar and wind in the smart grid was explained and the challenges it offers were also discussed. The crucial role which the computational intelligence techniques can play in maintaining the grid due to variable nature of wind and solar, the effect of inertia less generation, and the two way flow of electricity in the distribution side were also discussed.

The specific applications of technologies like Wide Area Measurement, Internet of Things, Block Chain, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning was also discussed. Emerging concept of Energy Transaction and the potential for computational intelligence in it was also discussed.
