AMU research fellow attends INQUA Congress in Rome

ALIGARH : Dr. Imran Khan, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University attended 21st INQUA Congress organized by the International Union for Quaternary Research and Sapienza University, Rome, Italy.

In his presentation, Dr. Khan talked about the subsurface existence and avulsion dynamics of paleochannels of the west-flowing Yamuna River in Haryana plain, which were delineated using sediment drill cores and their luminescence ages. He demonstrated how the subsurface alluvial stratigraphy of the region evolved with varied paleo-depositional conditions during the Late Quaternary (from 86000 years to the present).

Dr Khan, who is working under the mentorship of Prof. Rashid Umar, received financial support from the above organization to attend the conference.
