Awareness Cum Workshop on Calico Printing organized for students at Samba

 

SAMBA: A Two-Day awareness cum workshop on calico printing organised by Handicraft department for students concluded today here at Honorary Captain Dharub Singh Memorial Govt. Girls Model Hr. Sec. School Samba.

The workshop was organized to promote and revive the heritage of district Samba- calico hand block printing. About 80 students took part in the workshop.

The workshop was inaugurated by the School Principle, Dr. Bhavna Abrol.

AD Handicrafts, Niharika welcomed the participants to the workshop and briefed the gathering about the scope of the calico printing and its heritage link with District Samba. She stressed upon the students to carry forward this legacy of calico.

In his address, Dr. Bhavna Abrol highlighted the importance of skill development of students as envisaged in the new education policy. He appreciated the department for moving towards the revival of calico.

Sanjogita Dogra, an artisan, was invited as a resource person, who shared the modern developments in calico.

Kanta Devi and Kiran Kumari, senior craft instructors of the department explained the technique of calico printing, its importance and imparted practical training to the students.

The Students were given hands-on training in block printing.

Sushil Kumar, HTO talked about the various ongoing departmental schemes and informed the gathering about how these benefits can be availed.

The Students of the school also displayed various activities. A small exhibition of the departmental products was also organized. Vote of thanks was presented by Subash Chander, HTO.

Dr. Vandana Sharma, Rajeev Sharma, Anil Verma and other faculty members of the school were also present in the event along with Amit Kumar, Pushpinder Singh, Gar Singh, Sunny Singh, vijay singh, Poonam Sudan, Bharat Bhushan, Shashi Kumar, Tarsem Kumar, Farooq Mohd from the handicrafts department.
