CDE on ‘Expounding Dental Radiographs’

Aligarh : Prof M K Sunil (Head, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Teerthanker Mahaveer Dental College and Research Centre, Moradabad) discussed radiographs and other imaging modalities used for diagnosing and monitoring oral diseases and dentofacial development.

He was speaking as the resource person in the ‘Expounding Dental Radiographs’ Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology/ Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Z A Dental College (ZADC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Prof Sunil spoke on the importance of proper selection of different X-rays in diagnosis of dental pathologies such as Cyst, Tumours and Fibro-osseus lesions.

He explained how the latest advances in digital radiography and Cone Beam Computerized Tomography have made dental procedures easier.

In the inaugural address, Prof Pradhuman Verma (Chairman, Department of Oral Pathology/Oral Medicine and Radiology and Organising Chairman of the programme) discussed how latest developments provide better imaging tools for more accurate diagnosis and comprehensive treatment planning.

“Since the beginning of digital radiography, the time required for procedures for image processing, viewing, and storage substantially decreased. Recently, the 3-dimensional (3D) radiographs such as Computed Tomography (CT) and Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) changed the landscape of dental imaging”, he pointed out.

Dr Juhi Gupta also spoke on the changes in diagnosis and treatment planning with new dental imaging technologies.

Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) said: “Without a doubt, X-Ray is one of the greatest in the medical field. Radiographic imaging is making dental care easier”.
